
Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker have at least one of child who wants to following in their famous footsteps, but one of them is dead set against acting.
Broderick, 63, who also shares twins Tabitha and Marion, 13, with Parker, said one of the girls is ‘repelled’ by the idea of performing.
‘If you say, “What about you?” She says “Nope, no absolutely not,”‘ the doting dad explained. Regarding his son James Wilkie, 22, who co-starred with his dad in a recent episode of Elsbeth, the proud dad, ‘I think he is gonna try, yeah. He’s very smart.’
While discussing the topic of his kids getting into the family business at the 2025 SeriousFun Children’s Network Gala on Monday, the Ferris Bueller’s Day Off star told People his son has a lot of options.
‘He has a really good education too, so he has a lot of different things he can do, but I think right now he likes acting.’Broderick said he and Parker offer assistance, if requested, and the And Just Like That star helps their son with his auditions.
‘Well, I’ll give advice if I’m asked, [but] my wife is with him when he does auditions,’ he said, adding, that, ‘It’s self-tape nowadays and she’ll read with him and tell him, “It’s not good,”‘ he laughed.

In addition to Elsbeth, James Wilkie had a small part in an episode of Lady in the Lake, and will appear in the upcoming Days Ending in Y, with fellow nepo baby Sam Nivola, who is the son of British actors Alessandro Nivola and Emily Mortimer.
Parker, 60, who has been open about growing up poor as one of eight kids, has said in the past, she wants her children to make their own way.
The fashionista, who began working at a young age, is frugal and has admitted to dressing her kids in hand-me-downs. She told iHeartRadio’s Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi in 2023, ‘You want your children to understand what it means to earn money, what it takes to earn money, the value of it.’
Parker who has said her family often went without during her childhood advised, ‘I think it’s a great way of living for children, that their needs are met — to be fed, safe and loved.’
The Hocus Pocus star said she has taught her children to value ‘the important things in life: books and food and interesting experiences, and they’re warm in the winter and cool in summer,’As for getting anything they want, the loving mom said that wasn’t the case with her family. ‘They should pine for things, they should want things.’
On Monday, Parker celebrated her hubby’s Tony winning run in a Neil Simon classic from 22 years ago.
Sharing a photos of a current-day Broderick in a sweater vest and corduroy pants with a throwback black and white photo from 1983, the Divorce actress gushed, ‘My freaking brilliant husband. A legend.’
