Billie Eilish revealed she lost over 100,000 followers on Instagram after posting content that some fans found too provocative.
The “Ocean Eye” singer pumped on the viral “post a picture” challenge back in 2020, in which followers requested photos based on prompts.
Billie shared an image of her phone’s lock screen, featuring two topless women. In the same thread, she also responded to a fan asking for a drawing she’s proud of.
She then posted a sketch of women’s bodies, captioned, “these probably lol I love boobs.”
Almost immediately after the crude post, her follower count took a massive hit.
One fan clocked the drop from 73 million to 72.9 million, quipping, “BYE NOT HER LOSING 100K CUZ OF BOOBS.”
Rather than backing down, Billie leaned into the chaos.
She reposted the stat to her Instagram Stories… with a laugh.
“LMFAOOO y’all babies smh.”That wasn’t the only time Billie’s follower count dipped over her evolving image.
The pop star experienced a similar backlash in 2021 when she ditched her signature neon-green hair and oversized clothing in favour of a fresh look for the cover of British Vogue.
The photos, which featured Eilish in a corset and form-fitting catsuit, sparked another noticeable dip in her follower count.
Speaking to Elle USA, she reflected on how some fans struggled with the change: “People hold on to these memories and have an attachment. But it’s very dehumanising.”
She said, “I lost 100,000 followers just because of the boobs. People are scared of big boobs.”She added that the backlash came from fans clinging to a version of her that no longer exists.
“I’m still the same person,” she said. “I’m not just different Barbies with different heads.”
She also spoke about how this double standard rarely applies to men.
“Nobody ever says a thing about men’s bodies,” she told Elle, pointing out how male body types—from ripped to dad bod—get a free pass.
She added, “If you’re muscular, cool. If you’re not, cool. If you’re rail thin, cool. If you have a dad bod, cool. If you’re pudgy, love it!”“Everybody’s happy with it,” she added. “You know why? Because girls are nice.”
“They don’t give a f**k because we see people for who they are!”
